Course Description
Students will learn welding symbols and how to read blueprints for the various welding processes.

Certificate
Completion of this course certifies proficient blueprint reading skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Technical Competency is available upon request.

This course fulfills requirements for the following Programs:

- Describe the basics of joint design
- Identify the parts of a welding symbol
- Explain the parts of a groove preparation symbol
- Describe how nondestructive test symbols are used
- List the five major types of joints
- List seven types of welding grooves
- Lay out a basic welding project

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

The estimated length of this course is 15 hours.

Specific Course Admission Requirements
Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in this course. Also, the Welding Introduction and Safety Course must be completed prior to this course.

Course Location and Schedule
Granite High School (3305 S. 500 E., SLC): Monday - Thursday, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Tuition and Fees
Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. Adult full-time student tuition at the SLTATC is $4.00 - $1.30 per hour depending on the number of hours enrolled. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks. This course also has individual one-time supply and lab fees of $15. Please see the information sheet for your desired program for estimated total program tuition and fee costs.
