Program: Pharmacy Technician

Description
The Pharmacy Technician Program will prepare you to become a Licensed and Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). A Certified Pharmacy Technician performs routine tasks under the supervision of a pharmacist. They count tablets, label bottles, verify patient profiles, and affix the correct label and auxiliary labels. Pharmacy Technicians also may provide basic over-the-counter counseling, prepare insurance claim forms, and stock and take inventory of prescription and over-the-counter medications. They also may mix pharmaceutical medications in unmanufactured strengths, assemble a 24-hour supply of medicine for hospital patients and package and label hospital doses separately. Certified Pharmacy Technicians are employed in a variety of settings including retail, compounding, mail order, hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare insurance agencies. Completion of the Pharmacy Technician Program prepares students to sit for either National Exams — Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) or Exam of the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) and the Utah Pharmacy Technician Law and Rule Exam.
