Course: Computer Literacy

 

Course Description

This course provides a fundamental understanding of computing including knowledge and use of computer hardware, software, and operating systems. The course will cover basic use and common features of applications (word processing, spreadsheet, and database) including internet use and e-mail.

 

Certificate

Completion of this course certifies proficient computing skills based on a score of 80% or higher on competency exams. A Certificate of Skill Competence is available upon request.

Competencies (skills you will learn)

     •   Gain knowledge of primary applications such as common program, word processing,

          spreadsheet, and database functions

     •   Learn to use online computing including Internet and electronic mail

 

Course Structure

This is a competency-based course offered in open-entry/open-exit format.

 

Course Length

The estimated length of this course is 90 hours. Actual course length will depend upon your schedule and your ability to master the subject material.

 

Admission Requirements

Students should have completed Keyboarding Basics or have equivalent competency (25 w.p.m. keyboarding ability) . Also, courses in the Business Technology Programs are to be taken in order. The course list can be found on the information sheet for each program or by contacting Student Services.

Tuition is based on the number of enrolled classroom hours. High school students are exempt from tuition, but are responsible for course and program fees and the cost of textbooks.
