Tips to Help You Prepare Your IPDP
| The following questions are only tools to help you think through your work life, accomplishments, and contributions in order to help you develop short and long term goals. |
From your perspective…
- What professional contributions have you made to your work department during the past year?
- What are the activities of most worth in my professional life?
- What are my greatest strengths in my professional life?
- What talents and/or capacities do I have?
- Are there any areas in which I can improve?
- Are there any upcoming changes you are aware of (processes, software, equipment, etc.) in your area in the next year? Three years?
- Do I need additional skills and/or knowledge to prepare for these changes?
- How can I best contribute to my work department? To the organization?
Based on the above input,
- If you were to do one thing in your professional life that would have the most positive impact, what would that one thing be?
- What do you need to do this next year to accomplish this? Over the next three years?
From your manager’s perspective….
- What are the requirements of the position?
- Do the individual’s skills match the expectations of the position?
- What are the individual’s strengths?
- What contributions has this individual made to his/her work group the past year?
- Are there any areas for improvement?
- Are there any upcoming changes you are aware of (processes, software, equipment, etc.) in this individual’s area in the next year? Three years?
- Does this individual need additional skills and/or knowledge to prepare for these changes?
- In the overall picture of this individual’s workgroup, are there additional skills and/or knowledge gaps? If so, can this individual play a role?
Based on the above input,
- If you were to recommend one professional goal for this individual that would have the most positive impact for him/her, the department, and the department, what would it be?
